This Policy is designed to provide broad transparency and rights across jurisdictions. Some sections apply only where a particular law applies to SkillShiftEd or to you. 3. Sources of Personal Information
We collect personal information from:
- you, including through forms, scheduling pages, emails, calls, meetings, proposals, applications, accounts, and contracts;
- your device and browser, including through server logs, cookies, pixels, analytics tools, and similar technologies;
- your organization, representatives, references, publicly available professional sources, and professional or social-media pages you provide;
- educational institutions, distribution partners, service providers, and other parties involved in a potential or actual relationship, where lawful; and
- fraud-prevention, security, compliance, and business-information sources.
4. How We Use Personal Information
We use personal information to:
- operate, maintain, personalize, and secure the Site and Services;
- respond to inquiries, evaluate domain expertise and proposals, schedule meetings, and communicate about potential relationships;
- verify identity, authority, qualifications, ownership, and rights in submitted materials;
- develop, negotiate, administer, support, and enforce agreements and business relationships;
- connect approved opportunities with colleges, universities, educational networks, vendors, or distribution partners where authorized and appropriate;
- send service, relationship, and marketing communications, subject to applicable consent and opt-out requirements;
- measure Site usage, campaign performance, engagement, and service quality;
- detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and legal violations;
- comply with law, legal process, audits, tax obligations, recordkeeping, and enforceable requests; and
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and protect the rights, safety, and property of SkillShiftEd, users, and others.
5. Legal Bases for Processing
Where European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or similar data-protection law applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:
- steps requested by you before entering a contract and performance of a contract;
- our legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and promoting our Services; evaluating proposals; managing business relationships; and preventing fraud, balanced against your rights;
- your consent, including for non-essential cookies or certain marketing communications where required;
- compliance with legal obligations; and
- establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims or protection of vital interests where applicable.
You may withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.
6. How We Disclose Personal Information
We may disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:
- service providers and contractors that support hosting, security, CRM, scheduling, email, text messaging, video meetings, analytics, advertising, document storage, payment, accounting, customer support, and professional services;
- colleges, universities, educational institutions, course publishers, accreditors, networks, and distribution partners when needed to evaluate or administer an authorized opportunity or relationship;
- professional advisers, including attorneys, accountants, auditors, insurers, and consultants;
- government agencies, courts, law enforcement, regulators, or other parties when we believe disclosure is required or permitted by law, necessary to protect rights or safety, or needed to respond to legal process;
- a buyer, investor, lender, successor, or other participant in a merger, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, acquisition, bankruptcy, or similar transaction; and
- other parties at your direction, with your consent, or as clearly disclosed when the information is collected.
We require service providers and contractors to process personal information under appropriate contractual and confidentiality restrictions where required by law.
7. Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising
We do not sell personal information in exchange for money. Depending on the analytics, advertising, and campaign-measurement technologies enabled on the Site, we may disclose online identifiers, device information, and internet activity to analytics or advertising providers. Certain state laws may define those disclosures as “sale,” “sharing,” or processing for targeted advertising, even when no money changes hands.
Where applicable, you may opt out by using the “Your Privacy Choices” or cookie-settings link on the Site, enabling a legally recognized opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control, or contacting us as described below. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of individuals under 16.
9. Communications and Marketing Choices
SMS Opt-In and Messaging
SMS consent is collected only through the LeadConnector chat widget embedded on skillshifted.com. The widget provides two separate, optional consent choices that are unchecked by default: informational and transactional messages, and promotional messages. Website booking or application forms do not collect SMS consent. If you opt in through the widget, we collect your mobile number, the consent category selected, consent status, the date and source of consent, and message-related activity such as delivery, reply, and opt-out events. We use this information to send only the categories selected; maintain consent and suppression records; respond to HELP and STOP requests; and comply with telecommunications and consumer-protection laws.
SMS opt-in consent is optional and is not required to submit any form, purchase anything, or receive service. Consent applies only to the mobile number provided. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Opting out of SMS does not prevent non-marketing email or telephone communications needed to respond to your request or manage an existing relationship.
We do not sell, rent, or share SMS opt-in consent or mobile numbers collected for SMS purposes with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We may disclose mobile information to messaging platform providers, telecommunications carriers, and other subcontractors solely as needed to deliver and support our SMS program; they may not use it for their own marketing. All categories described in this Policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent from marketing disclosures.
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the message. You may opt out of marketing text messages by replying STOP when supported or by contacting us. We may continue sending non-marketing messages needed to respond to your request, manage a relationship, provide security notices, or comply with law.
Consent to receive marketing calls or texts is not a condition of purchasing or receiving services. Automated or marketing calls and texts will be sent only when permitted by law and supported by any required consent records.
10. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to manage inquiries and relationships, honor privacy choices, maintain security, comply with legal, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. The table in Section 2 provides typical retention periods or criteria.
Actual retention may be shorter or longer depending on whether a relationship is formed, a legal hold applies, deletion is technically delayed in secure backups, or law requires a different period. Privacy-request records may be retained for at least 24 months where California law applies. Suppression records may be retained as necessary to honor an opt-out or deletion request.
11. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including access controls, authentication, vendor controls, logging, and secure transmission where appropriate. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your devices and account credentials and for using secure channels when sending sensitive information.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to:
- confirm whether we process your personal information and access or obtain a copy of it;
- correct inaccurate personal information;
- delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions;
- receive certain information in a portable format;
- opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling;
- limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information;
- object to or restrict processing;
- withdraw consent;
- appeal our decision on a privacy request where applicable; and
- receive equal service and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.
To submit a request, email partners@skillshifted.com with the subject line “Privacy Request,” or write to the address in Section 22. Describe the right you want to exercise and the information needed to locate your records. We may verify your identity and authority using information reasonably related to your request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to proof of authorization and identity verification.
We will respond within the period required by applicable law. If we deny a request, we will explain the basis when required and provide appeal instructions where applicable. To appeal, reply to our decision or email the same address with the subject line “Privacy Appeal.”
13. California Privacy Notice
This section supplements the rest of the Policy for California residents. The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (“CCPA”), may apply only if statutory thresholds and other requirements are met. Where it applies, California residents have rights to know, access, correct, delete, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and receive non-discriminatory treatment.
The following chart summarizes categories of personal information collected and disclosed during the preceding 12 months or used for newly introduced Services. The specific categories depend on your interaction with us.

Business or commercial purposes for collection and disclosure are described in Sections 4 and 6. Retention periods are described in Section 2 and Section 10. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a right-to-limit notice unless disclosed otherwise at collection. We do not currently offer financial incentives or price or service differences in exchange for personal information.
California residents may submit requests using the methods in Section 12. We will maintain privacy-request records as required by law. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes in a manner that requires a separate disclosure under California’s “Shine the Light” law.
14. Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws may have rights similar to those described in Section 12, including rights to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or certain profiling and to appeal a request decision. We will process verified requests in accordance with applicable law. Where required, recognized universal opt-out signals will be treated as an opt-out request for the browser or device sending the signal.
15. EEA, UK, and International Users
If European Economic Area or United Kingdom data-protection law applies, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent, as described above. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We encourage you to contact us first so we can address your concern.
SkillShiftEd is based in the United States. Personal information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries that may not provide the same legal protections as your jurisdiction. Where required, we use recognized transfer mechanisms and contractual safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, or rely on another lawful transfer basis.
16. Educational Records and Partner-Controlled Data
If SkillShiftEd processes student education records or other personal information on behalf of a college, university, school, employer, or program partner, the partner may control the records and applicable rights process. We process such information under the applicable agreement and legal requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) where it applies. Requests concerning partner-controlled records may need to be directed to the institution that provided or controls the record.
17. Children and Minors
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 or to minors seeking consumer educational services. You must be at least 18 to submit a domain-expert proposal or enter a business relationship through the Site. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13 through the public Site. If we learn that we collected such information without legally required authorization, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
18. Automated Decision-Making
We may use rules, scoring, or workflow automation to organize inquiries, categorize expertise, prioritize follow-up, detect fraud, or support human evaluation. We do not use solely automated decision-making to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about domain experts unless we provide any notice and rights required by applicable law.
19. Third-Party Sites and Services
The Site may link to or integrate with third-party sites and services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own notices. Review those notices before providing personal information. We are not responsible for independent third-party privacy or security practices.
20. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in law, technology, vendors, or our practices. We will post the revised Policy and update the “Last Updated” date. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent when required by law for material changes.
21. Notice at Collection
At or before collection through a Site form, we will provide a short-form notice identifying the categories of personal information collected, the purposes, whether the information is sold or shared, retention periods or criteria, and links to this Policy and any applicable opt-out mechanism. The categories and purposes are summarized in Sections 2, 4, 7, and 13.
